OK, so we slipped a bit last week and didn't get you a drum solo, so today we'll make up for it with a triple shot of Tony Royster, Jr. at ages 12, 14 and 24. He's just great to watch, and while his style has a ton of flash, he never loses sight of the groove.
Our weekly salute to rhythm is not a solo exactly, but a trio. Quite
possibly the most watched drum exhibition video on the Net. Dave
Weckl, Steve Gadd, and Vinnie Colaiuta taking turns burning each other
up with some amazing drumming. Three very different styles, all equally
as impressive. Enjoy!
Dallas' The Phuss have been making quite an impression over the last year or so with their intense live shows and recently with their latest debut full length on BattleFlag Records, Wanted. The album is more or less a concept album following the legend of outlaw Billy Two-Step. One chapter of this story is covered in the first single from Wanted, "Preacher, Preacher" where-in Billy reaches for a religious experience in the way an outlaw might...
The video was shot on location in Dallas, Directed by Matt Cooper (Drowning Pool, The Feds, Jet). It features Michael Marco as Billy and Brian Smith (lead singer of Dallas band Maleveller) as the Preacher. For authenticity the video was shot on 16mm film.
I'll start this review off with full disclosure, I'm a big Lamb of God fan. I love them, but coming off the last album, Sacrament,
I was beginning to think that one of the new pillars of metal had
stalled out.
While Lamb of God's earlier material is good, I feel LofG
really hit their stride and solidified their signature sound (and in
turn, their place in the metal pantheon) with Ashes of the Wake. Sacrament has its bright spots, but as a whole left me wanting. Enter Wrath.
