(September 1st) Dave Bazan has released his first LP under his name
(since Pedro the Lion or Headphones) on Barsuk records entitled Curse Your Branches. I am rather pleased with the outcome from this boy yet not raving crazy.

Years
ago I would never had thought that I would be listening to Thrice, yet
because of the prodding by a couple of my friends I allowed myself to
listen to the Alchemy Index Vol I-IV and my whole perspective
has changed. I used to think that they were just high-energy, annoying
punks that somehow made their music loud enough for those kids who felt
"oppressed" by the "man" -- whoever that is. So I decided to give
their next album a chance as well... and I was not dissapointed. Beggars is the 6th installment for these, now, mature artists.

For
all you radiohead fanatics, the band has released a new song on the
web, free of charge! The track is called "THESE ARE MY TWISTED WORDS"
If
you're like me, you have trouble classifying radiohead short of putting
them in a catagory of their own. This new song is no different,
continueing the upbeat melodic vibe of their most recent album In Rainbows,
Radiohead continues to release their own music straight to their fans,
free of the sometimes crowding influence of a record label.

I recently picked up Modest Mouse's new single "Satellite Skin" and
before I knew it they went ahead and released a new EP a few days ago
entitled No One's First and You're Next. It includes the songs
from the single but also includes 6 new tracks. If you can appreciate
their previous work, then this EP is something you should pick up. Not to mention it contains the song "King Rat" that the late Heath Ledger directed its music video.

Wasilla/Portland's Portugal. the Man released their fourth full length album The Satanic Satanist on July 21st paired with an acoustic CD conversely entitled The Majestic Majesty.
With this recent installment, they have again experienced a musical
make-over pushing them across genres and style. In my opinion, it is
their most solid work to date.
