“The creation of music is a rare right of passage binding impression to melody, flesh to soul, the tangible to the intangible. For the next twelve months, I seek to write, play and experience music with people in the context of other cultures I do not know as intimately as my own.” Four years ago, Wheeler Sparks submitted these words to the Watson Foundation in what proved to be a successful endeavor to obtain a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship. He then embarked upon a trek across the globe to study the distinct musical cultures of Ireland, Spain, Morocco, Egypt, South Africa, India, China (Tibet) and Mongolia.

R&R Hero of the Week - Alexx Calise

Alexx  Calise

Another definition of a hero is someone who chases their dream no matter what and that is exactly what this weeks' R&R Hero of the Week is doing. Alexx Calise, a Fort Laurderdale native, is in LA chasing her dream to be a rockstar. Alexx started at an early age writing songs and playing guitar. She has had her eye on her dream for a long time. What an inspiration. What a hero. I was able to ask her a few questions so we could get to know more about this week's hero, Alexx Calise.

R&R Hero of the Week - Brian Price

R&R Hero of the Week - Brian  Price Band

While this ain't our Brian Price, and this Pittsburgh guy's songs aren't particularly outstanding, we do have to admire his move to doing what he loves.

It only took Brian Price 20 years to decide he'd rather do music than not and while it's not hard to see (hear) he might need a bit longer to work on his songs, Brian Price ain't half bad for having never played before. After getting "tired of singing in his car," Brian hooked up with some musician friends and has since posted some material on iTunes.
