Fanfarlo's first full-length LP, Reservoir is perhaps the best disc to land this year by a relatively unknown, unsigned, visionary sextet. At the very least, it is a hidden gem sure to add a shine to your heart and for the price, is not to be missed.
Recalling Baudelaire's novella La Fanfarlo, from which their name is derived, Fanfarlo is surley setting themselves up to be the example of romantic irony the music world needs right now.

A staple album on my ipod is The Great American Desert by the Thrift Store Cowboys. After seeing a live show at this year’s SXSW, I knew I had to tell more people about this evocative band. Their sound comes from a diverse mixture of instruments; sometimes it sounds western rockish, sometimes mariachi, sometimes indie folk with a desert twist. It is cohesive and beautiful, with the violin or pedal steel suddenly blowing through like the west Texas wind.

Avant-Hardcore vets Coalesce have announced the completion of their first full-length endeavor since 1998. Ox is 14 songs totalling about 35 minutes. They recorded the album at Blacklodge Studios with Ed Rose, a mainstay in the Coalesce sonic composition. Ox will be released and nationally distributed by Relapse Records sometime in April or May. For you hXc purists, there will be a vinyl version available.
