Only By the Night album cover

This, the fourth album by international phenomenon Kings of Leon, blends the raw emotion of genuine rock and roll with the kind of epic appeal not found in the work of many modern artists. This band is relatively new to me in the sense that I've only recently fallen under the spell of older albums such as Aha Shake Heartbreak and Because of the Times... and this album has only deepened my young obsession. I haven't been able to remove it from my car stereo since I bought it, and with every cycle through the album, I find myself more entranced.

From the universal and probably obvious allure of "Sex on Fire" to the emotionally charged appeal of "Manhattan," Only By the Night has taken the Kings (who already have an impressive repertoire for such a young band) to a new level of maturity and will undoubtedly further cement their place in rock history.

"Sex on Fire" lyrics:

Lay where you're laying
Don't make a sound
I know they're watching

All the commotion
The killing of pain
Has people talking

Your sex is on fire

Dark of the alley
The breaking of day
Ahead while I'm driving
I'm driving

Soft lips are open
Them knuckles are pale
Feels like you're dying
Your'e dying

Your sex is on fire
With whats to transpire

Hot as a fever
Rattling bones
I could just taste it
Taste it

But it's not forever
But it's just tonight
Oh we're still the greatest
The greatest
The greatest

Your sex is on fire
Your sex is on fire

With whats to transpire

Your sex is on fire
With whats to transpire

"Manhattan" lyrics:

I like to dance all night
And some of the day
That's how I play
Yeah that's how I play

I said who are you
No matter who you are
So we dance all night
And dance all day

I say
I say

We're gonna fuel the fire
We're gonna stoke it up
We're gonna sip this wine
And pass the cup

Who needs avenues
Who needs reservoirs
We're gonna show this town
How to kiss these stars

I say
I say

I'm on a hunt to kill
I'm gonna skin the hide
A yelp and scream
And away I ride

I'll never top this view
I'll never fall aground
It's all for you
For what you found

I say
I say
I say
I say

It's gonna take your hand
It's gonna drive you home
It's gonna keep on, keep on, keep on
And then forever run
