R&R Indie Spotlight - Deas Vail
Deas Vail is a combination of Latin and Old French that roughly means "Humble servant of God." And that is what Wes Blaylock decided to call his indie band from Russellville, Arkansas.
People say that Deas Vail have a musical style that is comparable to Death Cab For Cutie, Mew and Mae. Wes blaylock, the frontman knows how to handle that ever so popular falsetto that most front men flirt with. Wes' better half, Laura Blaylock, brings pop influence with her key/synth ability. The rhythm section is beaten by the hands of Justin Froning (bass) and Kelsey Hareleson (Drums). The nice guitar licks are brought into fruition by Andrew Moore, who reminds me of Chris Walla's older work. Just in case you don't know who that is, it is Death Cab For Cutie's guitarist.
Even though they share a state with Bill Clinton they are a pure indie band that sounds like they are from the OC. Deas Vail is one of the few bands that can take the indie pop sound and tag the sound with an adjective like beautiful.
Deas Vail signed with Brave New World (owned by Mark Lee Townsend) in 2005 after a couple of tours. They released their first EP titled Collapse in 2006. Soon after touring with the likes of John Ruben, The New Frontiers and The Tide, they got back in to the studio with Mark Lee to finish their first label release, All the Houses Look the Same. This album was released nationally in 2007.
They released one more EP through Brave New World before signing with Mono VS. Stereo, which is the label that released their latest project, Birds and Cages in 2009. Earlier this year they did a full physical release of the album.
Deas Vail have been busy on the road this year touring with Mae and Owl City at the beginning of the year and have been a part of the Van's Warped Tour during August.

Deas Vail - "Rewind" - Lyrics
I promise you we'll be fine now...
Just wait until the morning light.
Ghosts will come in these night hours,
But they're forgotten when the sun comes up.
I've watched my life through windows. (x2)
This is how it feels
To break up sound waves and fall into a quiet place.
This is how it feels to stay the same and leave your side.
(x2)
This behaves like a bad dream,
Where we go walking in the dark,
And heavenly are these bright lights.
They're keeping me awake, and I can't close my eyes as daylight turns to night.
This is how it feels
To break up sound waves and fall into a quiet place.
This is how it feels to stay the same and leave your side.
This is how it feels
To break up sound waves and fall into a quiet place.
This is how it feels to stay the same, stay the same
To stay the same
