Japandroids R&R rock and review     In 2006, Japandroids was birthed from proud papas Brian King (Guitar, Vocals) and David Prowse (Drums, Vocals). These rock stars met at the University of Victoria in British Columbia. Originally, they planned to find a third person to be on lead vocals, but once they realized they could jam with just the two of them they decided to share vocal duties. The bands name, Japandroids, is a combination to two bands names they came up with earlier - King came up with a name Japanese Scream and Prowse came up with Pleasure Driods and so they mixed and matched the names. Occasionally it has been said that they will spell the name without any vowels, JPNDRDS.

Japandroids released a couple of EP's before signing with Canadian label Unfamiliar Records in 2009. Post Nothing, Japandroids' debut album was released in Canada in April. Originally only on vinyl. June 2009 they signed to Polyvinyl Record Co. Post-Nothing was released worldwide in August 09 which gave them widespread recognition. This album was long-listed for the Polaris Music Prize as well as nominations for the Juno Award and Alternative Album of the Year.Japandroids ROCKandREVIEW.com Nice

Japandriods wanted to add a few more tracks to Post-Nothing, but like many other folks, the lack of dollars did not allow them to do that. Since they were not able to add those tracks, they decided to do a series of five limited edition 7 inch singles. The tracks you will not see on Post-Nothing are the following: "Art Czars," "Younger Us" and "Heavenward Gran Prix".

To simply describe Japandroids it goes like this: Big Guitar. Big Drums. Big Vocals. When people first hear Japandroids they are shocked to only find out there are just two members. King and Prowse do it big. I would say their sound is really Big Noise Pop.  It reminds me of Modest Mouse because they blast out every song as if it is the last one they may ever sing again. If you like clean, crisp sound, then Japandriods may not be your coffee of the month, but the destruction you hear on this album works. The ravage guitar sounds and the drums which are beaten to annihilation actually works well sonically. This album is every bit full-throtle action.

Since forming in 2006, Japandroids have received tons acclimation and acknowledgment. Post-Nothing reached #22 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart, Spin listed Post-Nothing as the 15th best album of 2009, and Metacrtic and Pitchfork both have given the album high ratings.
