R&R Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees

2011 Inductee's have been announced. This year's news is more about who wasn't picked than who was. Let's talk about the ones that made it for now and then we will get to the ones that were left out.
Alice Cooper made it. I am not suprised by this because he is what Shock Rock is all about. He started the lets out on a freak show for pure entertainment. He was the master of performance. Even you didn't like his style you could not deny his showmanship. Born Vincent Damon Furnier, this american rock all-star's career spands 4 decades. Alice Cooper was known for his horror film type rock shows were he would have very dark props with him on stage like, guillotines, Electric Chairs, skulls, fake blood and baby dolls. He wanted to shock his audience into being entertain. He could say he is the father of Shock Rock. After 26 studio albums, 7 live albums, and my favorite song "Schools Out", Alice has become immortalize with his induction to the hall of fame. Congrats old time, you deserve it.
Next on our list is the Neil Diamond. Born from a jewish family of Russian and Polish decent, Neil Diamond was born and raised in brooklyn. He was in the All City Chior with Barbra Streisand and love to sing. After High School, He went to NYU where he thought he would study medicene so he could be labatory Biologist so he could find a cure for cancer. However his senior year things changed when he got an offer from a music publishing company to write songs for 50 dollars a week. Neil's road to stardun had begun.
Neil had many ups and downs as a singer, songwriter and a musician. Through out his career he has has many stars sing his songs, The Monkee's, Elvis Presely, Jay and the Americans, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Deep Purple, and more. When he moved to MCA records his career began to boom again with hits like "Sweet Caroline", which was his first big hit after his slump and I would argue his biggest hit of his career. Why would I argue that, you ask? It is because you can't go to a piano bar or kareokee bar and not hear that song played. Other hits that came up after his slump were songs like "Holly, Holly", "Crackin Rose", and "Song Sung Blue". Many critics will say that his best work ever came off a live double album called "Hot August Night". They say this album captures the essences of his talents as a songwriter and musician.
As of 2001, Neil has sold over 115 million records sold worlwide which includes 48 million sold in the US alone. in terms of billboard chart success, he is third highest adult contemporary artist ever behind Barbra Streisan and Elton John. So with all of this he deserve to be one of the 2011 inductee's into the Rock and Roll hall of fame.

Jac holzman was not a musician, but started a lablel that brought us some of the best rock acts of the ages: The Doors, Queen, Love, Carly Simon, The Stooges, Harry Chapin and Bread when he created Elektra records. From there he went on join forces with warner and started WEA distribution and WEA international. Holzman, went on to be Senior VP and Cheif Techonologist for WCI. When he took over this role he guided them into home movies and the Qube, the first interactive cable television system. He also help warner to adopt compact disc and laser disc. He was also a member of the board for Atari. His other big accomplishment, like he really needs any more, was when he introduced Michael Nesmith to John Lack of warner to hear nesmith idea for a new programming idea for TV called popclips. You never heard of popclips? Well i know you heard of MTV, which is waht popclips mophed into. Yep, that is big. Holzman was the first to produce a music video for the doors to introduce them 12 years earlier and thought that tv programming centered around this idea was brilliant. Well he was right.
For not being a musician, jac has had alot of influence into music industry so for those reason mention above is why Jac was a 2011 inductee to the hall of fame.
Others that were inducted were Dr. John, a first rate session musician. Dr. john was a studio musician for the Stones, Carly Simon, James taylor,Neil Diamon, Van Morrison and Many others. This gives good reason to be a 2011 inductee. Darlene Love was also part of the 2011 class of inductees. Love's fame comes from being a highly sought after vocalist. She has sung back up for the likes of Elvis Presely, The Beach Boys, Tom Jones, Sonny and Cher and U2. Founder of specialty records, a blues, jazz and gospel label out of la, Art Rupe was also inducted. Leon Russell was in the inductee class of 2011 because of him being one of the most impressive sessions musician ever. He was a sessions musician for the following: Jerry Lee Lewis, George Harrison, Delaney Bramlett, Ringo Starr, Elton John, Eric Clapton, The Byrds, The Beach Boys, Willie Nelson, Badfinger, Tijuana Brass, Frank Sinatra, The Band, Glen Campbell, Clayton 'Red' White, and The Rolling Stones. That is all I need to say about him. Last but not least, well maybe least if you considered was left out of this years class, is Tom Waits.
The two biggest suprises, to me, that were left off were Beastie Boys and LL Cool J. I am not sure how you leave these two off especially the Beastie Boys. Even though they started out as a punk rock band in 82 they released and album in 1983 an experimental Hip-hop 12" single call
"Cooky Puss" . This album had moderate success and it started their hip-hop success. In 1986 the released "licensed to Ill" which quickly recieved international crtical acclaim and commercial success. As of 2010 they have sold 20 million albums in the us alone and 40 million world wide. Rock and Roll Hall of fame voters. You got this one wrong. You should of voted them in.
