Smashing Pumpkins - New Album

So the Smashing Pumpkins have been in the works for a while now.  Supposidly by the end of October they will begin to release their series of 11 - 4 track Ep's entitled Teargarden by Kaleidyscope.

I have been a Smashing Pumpkins fan since my childhood so this is pretty big to me, however I, by no means, have my hopes up.  Zeitgeist happened to be a let down for me because it was trying to emulate the past successes of the band instead of creating new art.  But Corgan specifically has said "The music of 'Teargarden by Kaleidyscope' harkens back to the original psychedelic roots of The Smashing Pumpkins: atmospheric, melodic, heavy, and pretty."  So I do have my ears perked up.

This is also the first work since the new drummer - Mike Byrne - who is 19 years old by the way - has joined the band.  I mean since Jimmy C. has left, those are HUGE shoes to fill, so I hope he is up to the task.  I am not sure why they did not take System of a Down's drummer because I knew he auditioned.

Anyway, probably the best feature about this new music is that it is ABSOLUTELY FREE!  so I mean, it does not matter if sucks because you did not invest anything but time to listen to it.  I guess they are following in Radiohead's footsteps so I cannot complain.

The concept as per Billy is "The story of the album is based on 'The Fool's Journey', as signified in the progress of the Tarot. It is my intention to approach this by breaking down the journey of our life here into four phases as made by these different characters; the Child, the Fool, the Skeptic, and the Mystic."  -- this totally sounds like Billy, so I hope he runs with it and does what he does best.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know...
