Two Door cinema Club - Tourist History

It has been awhile since an album has really excited me like Tourist History by Two Door Cinema Club. I have been listening to this album now for a week straight. This album is a great mixture of the Retro disco pop and modern electronical pop.

Halliday (guitar, vocals) and Trimble (lead vocals, guitar, synths, beats)  meet at Bangor Grammar school in Northern Ireland. When the duo meet their bassist when he was trying to get with girls they knew. I am thinking what an interesting way to meet your bassist. Anyways, the three got together and started to make music. Now there is funny story behind the bands name. One of the members, I guess they want to remain silent, mispronounced the name of a local cinema,Tudor Cinema, and some how this stuck with guys. in 2007, Two Door Cinema Club was born. Following a huge buzz on MySpace, Halliday, Trimble and Baird decided to stop going to the university and started working on some studio material. With the backing of their French record label, Kitsune Music, the Trio released their first EP Four Words To Stand On in January, 2009.  With the success of this EP, Two Door Cinema Club decided to work on a full length album which is out now, Tourist History.

This album was recorded at Eastcote studios in London in 2009. They just happen to be recording in the room next door to one 80's pop most influential artists, Duran Duran. They were the second band, behind Phoenix, to use Motorbass, Phillipe Zdar's new studio for mixing. Zdar is a brilliant when comes to mixing, Tourist History is sonically amazing. Everything seems to have the right balance. From the mesmerizing bass rifts of "Do You Want It All" to the slight disco sounds of "Something good can work," to the modern electronical pop of "I can talk" Two Door Cinema has created a masterpiece. I would not be surprised if they are nominated for best new band of 2010 this year at Grammys.

It is going to be awesome to watch this band progress throughout 2010. I think everyone should pick up this album. It is overall fantastic.

Nice one Charles, I was going to review this one too. I think Two Door Cinema Club is the best thing out of France since Phoenix, even though they are from Ireland. TDCC sound like a perfect mix of Semisonic and a modern-day BeeGees. I've listened to "Something Good Can Work" well over 100 times now. At least that is what the iTunes play counter tells me.
