Virginia Coalition - Home This Year

If there ever were a group that was the bridge between Counting Crows and Blues Traveler it is Alexandria's Virginia Coalition. A perfect blend of college rock and folk pop, Virgina Coalition comfortably reminds me of the sounds of both of these bands without an ounce of copy-cat and two tons of originality.

On VACO's 2008 release Home This Year, they have taken their high-energy live performances and honned their craft into more emotionally moving lyrical landscapes.

VACO paint a wonderful picture of 60's soul meets 70's southern-roots rock. Hit tracks include "Home This Year" a song about being away and yearning to get home again - (it reminds me of time on the road with my band) and the powerfully anthemic motivator "Stars Align". "Lately" is a wonderful song about the building of good relationships that we can all relate to. Virginia Coalition seems to have an uncanny way of gathering you up from whatever your going through and wrapping you in a musical wonderment that sets your mood right. Thank you VACO. Crisp production and tight song structures with a focus on songwriting and undeniably catchy melodies make their 10th disc to date, Home This Year, a can't-miss album.

Home This Year - Lyrics

Another sunset somewhere
I cannot remember is it monday or monday or
What was I just saying?
The hours of driving with nothing on the radio to sing to except you
So I'm writing you a song I'll call it

Gotta get home this year
Gotta get home this year

My signal is fading, it burns me up that I can't hear you
A bad mood from some bad food, no California salad
Forget these disasters maybe this new town will save us
A suitcase and a new face
A room of people that still love me

Gotta get home this year
Is that you baby?
The first words I wanna hear and
I gotta get home this year

It's something I can't live without
You're something like a perfect destination
If I get there I swear I'm never leaving
It's there I know I can believe in

Gotta get home this year
Gotta get home this year

So here's a truckstop, I'm dirty
Thirty and I miss you but it's too far to get home
A crash would raise the rates right thru the rooftop, sunrise
Man I wish that you could see this
Be this believe this, but I can see you everywhere.

Gotta get home this year
I gotta get home this year
Is that you baby?
The first words I wanna hear and
I gotta get home this year

Sing Along - Lyrics

come around… oh yea… yea… yea… yea…

come around come around everybody feels alone
turn around turn around I can help you make it home
you started to believe that you’d never win
everybody everybody gets a chance to start again

you reach out across the divide
i reach out from the other side

im only singing what life’s been bringing
if you feel it why don’t you sing along
from the beginning this life’s been winning
if you feel it I know it can’t be wrong

come around come around everybody’s making love
turn around turn around looking for the meaning of
you started to believe you’d never find
everybody everybody’s looking for a star to shine

you reach out across the divide
i reach out from the other side

im only singing what life’s been bringing
if you feel it why don’t you sing along
from the beginning this life’s been winning
if you feel it I know it can’t be wrong

its about holding on
its about letting go
its about not enough
its about I don’t know
its about everything you could believe in… you believed in
its about holding on
its about letting go
its about not enough
its about I don’t know
its about wanting just a little bit more... yea…
don’t you want a little more… ahhhh
don’t you want a little more

and im only singing what life’s been bringing
if you feel it why don’t you sing along
(why don't you sing along)
from the beginning this life’s been winning
if you feel it I know it can’t be wrong

im only singing what life’s been bringing
if you feel it why don’t you sing along
(why don't you sing why don't you sing along)
from the beginning this life’s been winning
if you feel it I know it can’t be wrong
if you feel it I know it can’t be wrong
(I know it can't be wrong)
if you feel it why don’t you sing along

come around come around everybody’s making love
turn around turn around looking for the meaning of

Santa Fe - Lyrics

Don't care what you look like, I wanna be your friend
The world is a mystery of sweetness with an often bitter end
Don't know where you're going, just let me in
The world is a memory adventure of the places where we've been.
I've been an autocrat, I've been a diplomat
I've been skinny and I've clung on to babyfat
I've been a dinosaur, been a civil war, been a lighthouse on a distant shore

Woah, but all my thought they fairly slip away
They trickle back in different random sweet versions someday
When I get to Santa Fe
It'll all sound pretty in a different way

I don't know what you're thinking, why would I try?
Your mind is a mystery to me, so I'll listen to your eyes
I can't say what you're dreaming, but your kicking your heels
If we spend half our lives asleep who can say what's truly real?
I've been a hypnotist, sparkling amethyst
Well I mourned the passing moonlight on a lovers tryst
I've been a crystal ball, I've been 10 feet tall, been all in one and all and all and all

But all my thoughts they fairly slip away
Then trickle back in different random sweet versions someday
When I get to Santa Fe
It'll all sound pretty in a different way

I don't know if you need one, or if you've ever seen one
But I believed in one
I don't know if you need one, but I can share, I never bothered counting

But all my thoughts they fairly slip away
They trickle back in different random sweet versions someday
But when I get to Santa Fe
It will all sound pretty in a different way.

I Got This One - Lyrics

Something broke and was rattling’ around
I was the reigning king, of what not to do
Then you came to me and carried my crown
Head over heels again, I’m looking at you
As a chance to make a good decision
So I’m telling everyone who will listen

I pawned my piano, to pay for the lessons
I burned down the church, to atone for my transgressions
And I’m not the one you run to, for the answer to most questions
But I got this one…I got this one…I got this one….Yeah
Yeah I got this one

Been caught crying, when nothing was around.
This time I swear I didn’t get it wrong
No one believes me, not anymore
I can’t say I blame them; I’ve been a fool for so long
So I’m telling everyone who’ll listen
About a chance to make a good decision

I pawned my piano, to pay for the lessons
I burned down the church, to atone for my transgressions
And I’m not the one you run to, for the answer to most questions
But I got this one…I got this one…I got this one…

You are the remedy; I won’t let you slip away
Even my broken clock is right twice a day
Oh when I am on a mission, tell everyone who’ll listen
And I’m using my decision for you

I pawned my piano, to pay for the lessons
I burned down the church, to atone for my transgressions
And I’m not the one you run, to for the answer to most questions
I got this one…I got this one…I got this one... (Repeated)

Look My Way

it's easy to see that your heart has been broken
believe me, i have been there before
it's not the language of love that you're missin
it's fear of what was spoken before

that's why i think its time i brought it up
to keep you from givin up
don't you know that you'll find love somehow, someway
but only when you look my way

leave it to me and your heart will be answered
this is what i guarantee
its not a question, it's a promise that i'm keepin
sendin it to you from me

that's why its time i brought it up
to keep you from givin up
don't you know that you'll find love somehow, someway
but only when you look my way

wishin that we were more than we are
if only for a moment
takin our chances and you seem so far away
under the moonlight, we reach for it all
your eyes are shining brighter than i know
under the stars that are starting to fall

its time i brought it up
to keep you from givin up
don't you know that you'll find love somehow, someway
but only when you look my way

Stars Align - Lyrics

Now I have tried to find my way with words
That say those things that bring me to sing to everyone
But I wanted it to be this way all along
I’d be a fool to worry you and say

Have we lost our way?
Even what was certain in the days behind
Don’t know where we are
We could go so far if the stars align

Now you stay true honest long lonesome road
That winds so tightly
Sometimes you hardly can bare
And you wanted it to be this way all along
Are you the fool to worry me and say

Have we lost our way?
Even what was certain in the days behind
Don’t know where we are
We could go so far if the stars align

Every time I hear your voice
Deep in the night it felt so far away
You can be sure you’re not alone
Remember when you hear me
Remember when you hear me
Say yeah yeah yeah sing yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

Our time is here
our path is clear for once in our lives
and this may be one small moment we don’t have to say, we don’t have say

Have we lost our way?
Even what was certain in the days behind
Don’t know where we are, no
We could go so far if the stars align

Have we lost our way?
Even what was certain in the days behind
Don’t know where we are
We could go so far if the stars align
We could go so far
We could go so far if the stars align
We could go so far if the stars align

Lately - Lyrics

Someday maybe, when you can rest your eyes
You know lately it’s been no big deal
I’m on top just thinking about it, keeping it rollin in
Never noticed I spend every single minute on it

I’m not leaving, I’m not going
I got everything, it’s a simple thing
You may be hurt but it ain’t showing
Well I guess everybody gotta go someday
Keeps getting better every time I stay
Fills me up just to hear you say
It’s been so good lately

I’ve been thinking about you lately
Have you been thinking about me lately?
I can see you everywhere lately
That’s the way it should be

Somehow I know inside, this is going to take me there
Living in the middle of it, makes it crystal clear
It’s no more wondering what I should do
Maybe you noticed I spend every single minute on it

I’m not leaving, I’m not going
I got everything, it’s a simple thing
You may be hurt but it aint showin
Well I guess everybody gotta go someday
Keeps getting better every time I stay
Fills me up just to hear you say
It’s been so good lately

I’ve been thinking about you lately
Have you been thinking about me lately?
I can see you everywhere lately
That’s the way it should be
Over and over, how much me work
Started to watch as the tables turn
It’s all between us and starting to come together, together, together
Yeah yeah yeah yeah

Lately
I’ve been thinking about you lately
Have you been thinking about me lately?
I can see you everywhere lately
That’s the way it should be
Have you been thinking about me?
Thinking about me baby?

Not Scared - Lyrics

Stole the car keys from your mother
Drove beyond the county line
We are hidden but from moonlight in the night

If it's wrong that we're together
Why does this love carry on?
I can see that they won't break you so I'll stay strong all along
They can't take you
When you're gone
I can say

I'm not scared to hold you
And I don't care what they told you
You'll be mine
And in time we'll be fine

Pretending we don't know each other
Such a tired masquerade
Pull the shades up on and wonder what we'd make
Would you trade the world they gave you?
When we say, I can say

I'm not scared to hold you
And I don't care what they told you
You'll be mine
And in time we'll be fine

So please remember
The truth inside your heart lives on forever
Please remember
That I'm not scared to hold you
And I don't care what they told you
I'm not scared to hold you
And I don't care what they told you

No I'm not, I'm not scared to hold
And I don't care what they told you (x2)

Oh I'm not
You'll be mine
And in time we'll be fine
